Comment on Agile or Waterfall? Neither…it’s your culture, stupid! by Linky https://www.pmresults.co.uk/agile-or-waterfall/#comment-180 Tue, 18 Apr 2017 14:44:23 +0000 https://www.pmresults.co.uk/?p=2049#comment-180 Well said Gren couldn’t agree more. It’s more about the culture and how the PM is empowered and the project team supported than what methodology is chosen.

Comment on Agile or Waterfall? Neither…it’s your culture, stupid! by Deanne Earle https://www.pmresults.co.uk/agile-or-waterfall/#comment-179 Tue, 18 Apr 2017 09:31:44 +0000 https://www.pmresults.co.uk/?p=2049#comment-179 Having just read this on LinkedIn, it’s a good post with ongoing relevance. Far too many organisations now seem stuck on the methodology track as a panacea when a project’s success or failure is dependent on more than method alone. When everyone needs to know everything all the time productivity takes a huge hit and that time is rarely included in projected timescales.
There’s a lot to be said for management practices that ensure teams know why they’re there and what they’re there to do, along with experienced leaders who let them get on with it while providing support and direction when required.

Comment on How to develop new products by Nancy Beth Guptill https://www.pmresults.co.uk/how-to-develop-new-products/#comment-177 Mon, 30 May 2016 10:49:31 +0000 https://www.pmresults.co.uk/?p=959#comment-177 This is a really great blog post with realistic and practical advice. I remember doing primary market research and focus group sessions for a company that was designing a new product invention. The founder created the product based totally on their own love and passion for the idea. After conducing marketing research and hosting focus group sessions, they were so devastated with the feedback because it did not match their vision, they gave up versus being flexible and accepting of market and consumer expectations for such a product. When birthing new ideas, you need to plan, otherwise you are planning to fail. Your eight points above provide a great framework to follow.

Comment on How to Estimate Costs by Josh https://www.pmresults.co.uk/how_to_estimate_costs/#comment-176 Wed, 11 Nov 2015 08:07:37 +0000 https://www.pmresults.co.uk/?p=1227#comment-176 Your post about project estimation is bang on. I liked the way you have accounted for subject matter experts (SMEs), risks (contingency), buffer, non-human resources.

Another interesting aspect is learning from the past. Project closure notes to include commentary about project cost estimation and actual cost comparison. The better way of organizing project cost estimation/cost information and in turn better management of projects is to use right project management tool.

Comment on If you’re living with a micro-management fixation, go cold turkey and learn to delegate by grengale@sky.com https://www.pmresults.co.uk/youre-living-micro-management-fixation-go-cold-turkey-learn-delegate/#comment-92 Mon, 01 Jun 2015 09:36:48 +0000 https://www.pmresults.co.uk/?p=647#comment-92 I’m with iPage, but the main issue with page loading is usually the size of your images – mine are compressed down to mostly less than 100K – try using NCH photopad Image editor, its a free download and is easy to use to compress images. I also found that deactivating any plugins that I don’t use, really speeded the whole site up.

Comment on Has The Apprentice forever associated the words ‘Project Manager’ and ‘You’re Fired’? by grengale@sky.com https://www.pmresults.co.uk/apprentice-forever-associated-words-project-manager-youre-fired/#comment-91 Mon, 01 Jun 2015 09:33:55 +0000 https://www.pmresults.co.uk/?p=578#comment-91 I don’t get too much spam as yet – I suspect its hard for a filter to work out what is real and what is spam, but worth searching for a plugin
